STEEPLECHASE with HANZ ARAKI

Sunday, May 18, 2025
7:00 PM, General Admission
$25
Steeplechase came together the traditional way—at an Irish music session. What began as casual tunes quickly revealed a shared musical chemistry, and a band was born. Though three of the four members hail from Maine, fate brought them all to the Pacific Northwest, where their multi-generational mix and shared passion for traditional music flourished. Their varied paths into the genre and even their dramatic height differences (which they humorously try to disguise by playing seated) only add to their charm and authenticity.
At the heart of the group is Hanz Araki, a flautist, whistle player, singer, and Juno Award-winner widely regarded as one of the finest Irish musicians in America today. With three decades of musical exploration across Irish, Scottish, Japanese, and American traditions, Hanz brings a distinctive voice and sound that Fatea Magazine calls “achingly beautiful.” As the sixth generation of his family to hold the title Araki Kodo, he blends his Japanese heritage with his Irish roots to create music that is both deeply traditional and uniquely his own.
Presented, in part, by the Moreland Family Foundation.
Doors open at 6:00 pm. Arrive early and pick up snacks and drinks from our Lower Lobby Concessions to enjoy from your seat during the show!
